Eva Store
by Elizabeth Yang
Located on a tree-lined street of NoLita is boutique store EVA, a
notable gem of Mulberry Street opened by New Yorker Stephanie Pappas.
The storeowner travels to Paris to purchase pieces which includes
clothing, shoes, bags, belts and jewelry from a variety of brands,
claiming to make her decisions by not following any trends.
EVA has a characteristic of being a retail store that sells unique
pieces before they get too widespread. "We like to keep it fresh,"
said Joseph Mazarelli, the store's 25-year-old sales assistant. Other
than Vivienne Westwood clothing and shoes for the upcoming season, EVA
also carries Mari and Piasci, Form, Lauren Felton, Pepper and Pistol,
Majan Pejoski and Society for Rational Dress.
It's true that the general feel of EVA has a feminine twist, with
upholstered chairs in pink with several mirrors, yet the aura is of
something a bit more antique mixed with a bit of modernity.
Style-wise, the collections at the store bend towards girly bourgeois,
matched with patent leather handbags and Boyy Bags, as well as
intricate jewelry from Tom Binns and Made Her Think. Perhaps a good
analogy of the concept of the boutique and its pieces can be
demonstrated by Pappas' personal draw to specific colors. As someone
whose favorite color is pink, she habitually wears purples and black.
Jeans, skinny and not, are also available at the store with a
selection from Proportion 01 along with Grey Ant, whose high waist
jeans with sailor legs form a contoured fit that fascinates. To finish
things off, take your peak at the chiffon chain belts and delicate
hardware with leather belts.
